The Daughters of Oedipus
In the aftermath of civil war, three sisters are determined to defy the law and bury their brother in this modern retelling of Antigone.
This new adaptation of Antigone follows the struggle of three sisters who risk the death penalty when they defy the authorities’ decree that one of their brothers, Eteocles, is to have a state burial, while the other brother, Polynices, is to remain unburied, left to rot in the open air, as punishment for his insurrection. Desperate to avoid having to execute Antigone and her two sisters, the officials strive in vain to change their minds, evoking their duty as citizens to fulfil the law of the state. But the three sisters are resolute: their brother must be buried, whatever the cost.
